Broker-led transactions make up majority of lenders’ loan books

Last year, 70% of NACFB Patrons’ total lending to UK SMEs was facilitated through the commercial intermediary channel. In its annual survey, the Association asked Patrons which maintain both direct-to-customer and intermediary-led channels to set out the ratio between the two. The findings revealed nearly three quarters of commercial lending was undertaken through the broker channel. It was the first time the trade body has both surveyed Patrons and asked this specific question, so whilst there is no historically comparative data, the direct versus intermediary-led ratios will certainly become a metric the NACFB tracks in the coming years. NACFB managing director Norman Chambers said: “Once we stripped from the data the Patrons that were already 100% broker-led, it was revealing just how vital the broker community remains for lenders that also operate direct models. The data backs a broader trend of lenders realising the efficiencies of both time and money effective engagement with our community can garner.” The NACFB’s full 2022 survey results can be found in the latest issue of the Association’s Commercial Broker magazine, available to read online now.
